Edo Govt Threatens Legal Action Over Defamatory Social Media Post Against Gov. Okpebholo
The Edo government has given Mr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor a 24-hour ultimatum to retract and apologize for a social media post it deems defamatory against Governor Monday Okpebholo and the Executive Council.
The post accused the administration of irregularities, including limited council meetings and mismanagement of contract awards, which the government vehemently denied as false and malicious.
The government, through Attorney General Dr. Samson Osagie, threatened civil and criminal proceedings if Ifaluyi-Isibor fails to comply and demanded a public apology on social media and in a national newspaper.
This action underscores the government’s commitment to combating misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
