Yusuf declares Monday public holiday in honour of deceased Kano athletes
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has declared Monday a public holiday to honor the 22 athletes and officials who died in a road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The victims were part of Kano’s contingent to the festival, and the Governor described the incident as a dark moment for the state.
Yusuf, currently in Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj operations, extended condolences and called for calm and unity, promising support for the affected families.
He also urged prayers for the deceased and their families during this difficult time.
