US Judge Blocks Trump’s Unlawful National Guard Deployment to Los Angeles
A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration’s deployment of California’s National Guard to Los Angeles was unlawful and must be reversed, temporarily restoring control to Governor Gavin Newsom.
The state had sued, arguing President Trump acted without the governor’s consent, citing that the protests did not constitute a rebellion as required by law for federalization.
Judge Charles Breyer emphasized constitutional limits on presidential power, stating the president is not commander-in-chief of the National Guard except under specific conditions.
This marks the first such deployment without state consent in over 50 years, raising significant legal and constitutional issues.
