Tinubu’s Benue Visit Draws Criticism as Obi Demands Immediate Action on Mass Killings and Flood Relief
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to visit Benue State on Wednesday following the massacre of over 200 villagers, a move described as a solidarity visit by the Presidency.
Labour Party leader Peter Obi criticized the delay, stating that immediate presidential presence is vital in such emergencies and that the announced visit feels like a routine tour rather than an urgent response.
Obi highlighted the need for similar attention to flood victims in Niger State, urging the government to show equal compassion and avoid perceptions of selective consolation.
He also called for stronger security measures, accelerated relief efforts, and a federally coordinated insurance scheme for farmers affected by conflict and disasters, emphasizing that sustained action is necessary to restore public trust beyond symbolic visits.
