Tinubu bans procurement of foreign goods produced locally

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has initiated the “Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy,” which prohibits Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) from procuring foreign goods or services already available locally without a waiver from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the policy aimed at strengthening the domestic economy, promoting local content, and reducing dependency on foreign imports.
The policy mirrors the “America First” doctrine and is designed to foster a bold, confident Nigerian business culture, advancing industrialization and import-substitution efforts.
The Attorney General has been directed to draft an Executive Order to legally enforce this new procurement framework.
