Tinubu bans procurement of foreign goods produced locally
- Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has initiated the “Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy,” which prohibits Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) from procuring foreign goods or services already available locally without a waiver from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
- The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the policy aimed at strengthening the domestic economy, promoting local content, and reducing dependency on foreign imports.
- The policy mirrors the “America First” doctrine and is designed to foster a bold, confident Nigerian business culture, advancing industrialization and import-substitution efforts.
- The Attorney General has been directed to draft an Executive Order to legally enforce this new procurement framework.
