The South African rand remained steady against the dollar as investors awaited the upcoming budget speech and a crucial meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and US President Donald Trump.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana aims to pass the budget on Wednesday after two previous unsuccessful attempts due to coalition disagreements over tax increases.

The South African delegation arrived in Washington to reset strained ties with the US ahead of the heads of state meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

The local stock market and benchmark 2030 government bonds showed little change during this period.
