Seven South African teenage girls arrested after bullying video goes viral online
Seven teenage girls aged between 13 and 14 were arrested in Gauteng, South Africa, following a viral bullying video that drew public outrage on social media.
The girls are accused of assaulting another teenager in Bellevue, Johannesburg, on May 10, 2025, and face charges of common assault.
The arrests were made on May 18, 2025, and the girls were released into their parents’ custody pending a court appearance scheduled for May 19, 2025.
The incident and subsequent video showing the assault prompted police intervention after widespread calls for action online.
