Retired four-star Navy Admiral Robert Burke was found guilty of bribery for accepting a $500,000 yearly salary and stock options in exchange for steering government contracts to a company run by his co-conspirators.

Burke, who once served as vice chief of naval operations, is the highest-ranking US military officer to be convicted of a federal crime.

The scheme involved Company A, whose CEOs repeatedly contacted Burke despite Navy warnings, culminating in a meeting where the bribery deal was made.

Burke faces up to 30 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for August.
