Outcry Over N6bn in 2025 Budget Allocated to Non-Agricultural Projects by NCAM
The 2025 budget for Nigeria’s National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) has sparked public outrage after over N6 billion was allocated to projects unrelated to agriculture, such as renovating a leprosy centre, medical outreaches, and hairdresser training.
Other questionable expenditures include classroom construction, motorized boreholes, roadworks, and stadium rehabilitation scattered across various states, raising concerns about misallocated funds under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Financial analysts and the Minister of Agriculture have condemned these inclusions, stressing the need for budget discipline and alignment with core agricultural goals amid Nigeria’s food inflation and low mechanisation challenges.
Civic organization BudgIT has called for increased legislative oversight to curb waste and ensure funds support national development priorities.
