Only 19% of Nigerians pay tax –FIRS
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) revealed that only 10 to 19 percent of Nigerians pay taxes, indicating one of the lowest compliance rates in Africa.
In response, FIRS launched a children’s tax education book titled “Taxation Essential Knowledge for Nigerian Children” to promote tax awareness from an early age and improve future compliance.
The initiative aims to build tax consciousness among youths, linking tax education with responsible citizenship, transparency demand, and government accountability.
Over 60,000 copies of the book have been printed for free distribution to schools nationwide, supporting FIRS’s goal to bolster revenue and meet a N20 trillion target by 2025.
