NPA, APM Terminals and Shipping Lines Collaborate to Resolve Container Yard Congestion at Apapa Port
The Nigerian Ports’ Authority (NPA) convened a meeting with major shipping lines and APM Terminals, Apapa, to address the yard congestion caused by delays in empty container evacuation.
Shipping lines such as Maersk, Hapag Lloyd, and COSCO attended, and parties discussed terminal capacity, container movement communication, and coordinated operational efforts.
Agreed resolutions include enhanced communication of yard stock levels, revised advance notices for terminal gate closures, and the use of off-dock terminals to alleviate yard congestion.
APM Terminals clarified that shipping lines control empty container evacuation, and recent import surges have prioritized laden container discharge, limiting space and causing temporary restrictions on receiving empty containers.
