Nigeria’s internet usage dips slightly after 50% tariff hike – Businessday NG
- Internet usage in Nigeria fell from 1 million TB in January to 893,054.80 TB in February following a 50% increase in telecom tariffs approved in January.
- Tariffs were raised to ₦9.6 per minute for calls, ₦6 for SMS, and ₦431.25 for 1GB of data, reflecting a decade-long push by telecom operators.
- Despite the dip, MTN Nigeria recorded ₦529.44 billion data revenue in Q1 2025, with mobile subscriptions reaching 172.43 million and broadband penetration at 47.73%.
- The tariff increase is expected to boost telecom revenue further as demand for data continues to grow and adjustments take full effect.
