Niger State Seeks Dangote Partnership to Develop Bida Basin Oil Blocks and Boost Economy
Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago of Niger State highlighted the state’s readiness for private sector investment in hydrocarbon exploration at the Dangote Special Day event during the Niger National Trade Fair.
The Dangote Group, renowned for its industrial projects including Nigeria’s largest refinery, is seen as a key partner for developing the recently discovered oil blocks in the Bida Basin.
A 2023 geological survey identified 17 commercially viable oil blocks with reserves potentially lasting 70 years, with plans for industrial and agricultural growth supported by government initiatives like a Free Trade Zone.
Dangote representatives emphasized their substantial investments in Niger State, including commitments to boost local agriculture through the Niger Food Initiative and rice production enhancements.
