NAFDAC clarifies sachet alcohol ban timeline
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the lifting of the nationwide ban on sachet alcohol is temporary, valid only until December 31, 2025.
NAFDAC’s FCT Director, Kenneth Azikiwe, emphasized that the ban’s enforcement will resume fully after this date and that the temporary lifting aims to allow collaboration for better regulation.
The agency has been conducting public sensitization campaigns nationwide, urging that alcohol sales to individuals under 18 be prohibited and that sachet alcohol products under 200 milliliters will be phased out after 2025.
NAFDAC also commended the Distillers and Beverages Association of Nigeria for supporting these awareness efforts.
