Instagram Launches Teen Accounts in Nigeria to Enhance Online Safety for Under-16 Users
Meta has officially launched Instagram Teen Accounts in Nigeria, aimed at providing a safer online environment for users under 16 with enhanced privacy and safety features.
Teen profiles are private by default, restrict direct messaging to approved users, limit exposure to sensitive content, and include features like log-off reminders and Sleep Mode to promote healthier digital habits.
Parental controls enable guardians to monitor recent interactions, set screen time limits, and view age-appropriate interest topics without compromising teens’ privacy.
This rollout aligns with Nigeria’s national digital well-being goals and has been welcomed by officials like NITDA’s Barrister Emmanuel Edet as a significant advancement in online child protection.
