How I sold one album twice, made N24 million – Timaya
Music star Timaya revealed that early in his career, he sold one album twice to two different music marketers in Alaba market, earning N500,000 from the first sale and eventually making N24 million from the strategy which boosted his popularity in Lagos and beyond.
He actively promoted his music by doing door-to-door sales and distributing CDs at motor parks, emphasizing his self-belief and commitment to music without relying on a label or salary.
Timaya also highlighted the soaring costs of music video production and promotion, stating it now costs over $100,000 to promote a single song, making financial return a significant part of his passion for music.
Rising to fame in 2005 with hits like “Dem Mama,” Timaya has since become a prominent African artist and founder of DM Records, supporting emerging talents like Patoranking.
