George Akume: Nigeria Remains Most Democratic Country in West Africa After 26 Years
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, declared Nigeria as the most democratic nation in West Africa, highlighting its 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
He emphasized Nigeria’s progress despite many Sub-Saharan African countries reverting to military rule and praised the heroes of democracy for their sacrifices, particularly commemorating the June 12 struggle.
Akume made these remarks during the 2025 Democracy Day lecture at the State House in Abuja, underscoring continued commitment towards achieving full democratic ideals.
He acknowledged challenges but expressed confidence in Nigeria’s democratic path and future.
