FG Orders 3 Year Ban For Students Caught Cheating, Clampdown On School/CBT Cente – Education – Nigeria
The Nigerian Federal Government has mandated a three-year ban for students caught cheating in national examinations, including JAMB, WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB, using the National Identification Number (NIN) for enforcement.
The directive, issued by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, also orders sanctions against schools and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres involved in malpractice, with derecognition by all examination bodies for a determined number of years.
This measure aims to deter examination malpractice and restore credibility to Nigeria’s educational system by coordinating enforcement across exam bodies, aligning with the Examination Malpractices Act.
The policy has sparked varied reactions, with some calling for accountability of corrupt officials and skepticism about enforcement effectiveness given systemic issues.
