FG Grants Free Tuition, Housing, and Feeding in Technical Colleges
The Nigerian Federal Government has eliminated school fees for public technical college students and will provide free accommodation, food, and a monthly stipend of ₦22,500 as part of a new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plan announced by Education Minister Dr. Olatunji Alausa.
The initiative aims to equip five million young Nigerians with practical skills by 2030, addressing the high youth unemployment due to a lack of job-ready skills. It includes retraining over 3,600 teachers and approving quality training centers, with additional support like business loans and grants to help students transition into the workforce.
The program also seeks to change perceptions around technical education, promoting TVET as a valued career pathway that leads to independence and employment. The Ministry is collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure nationwide implementation with the goal of harnessing the potential of Nigeria’s largely young population.
