FG announces deadline to take tertiary institutions off the national grid, shares list
Image Credit: legit- The Nigerian federal government is moving all federal tertiary institutions off the national electricity grid, transitioning them to solar power by 2027 under the “Energising Education Project”.
- So far, 24 universities have been taken off-grid, with the current phase adding eight more institutions including Ahmadu Bello University and University of Lagos.
- The solar facilities provide continuous power, boosting academic activities and campus business, supported by the Renewable Infrastructure Fund.
- The government plans to ban solar panel imports to promote local production, potentially saving up to ₦200 billion in foreign exchange annually.
