Elon Musk announced he is stepping down from his role as a Special Government Employee at the White House DOGE office, thanking President Donald Trump for the opportunity to help reduce wasteful government spending.

Musk criticized a recent bill by Trump for increasing the deficit and stated he plans to reduce his political spending after having spent over $277 million supporting Trump and the GOP in 2024.

He emphasized his return to focusing full-time on his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, which has been positively received by investors following past protests related to his government involvement.

Musk’s work at the DOGE office involved efforts to cut government spending and eliminate fraud, but he was limited by federal regulations to serve no more than 130 days within a year.
