EFCC Yet to Arrest Tompolo Eight Days After Calling Him Out Over Naira Abuse
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has not arrested former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, despite a viral video showing him abusing the Nigerian naira.
The video captures Tompolo dancing on ₦1,000 notes during his 54th birthday celebration, an act that violates Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which criminalizes mutilating or disrespecting the currency.
The EFCC had previously stated that nobody is above the law and that Tompolo would face questions, but no update or arrest has been made as of yet.
This situation has sparked calls for the EFCC to act against influential individuals while continuing to prosecute ordinary citizens for similar offenses.
