Early pay in May: Good news for Sassa SRD grant beneficiaries | The Citizen
- SASSA has announced the May 2025 payment schedule for the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, with payments processed from May 23 to 28 due to May 25 falling on a Sunday.
- The SRD grant, managed by the Department of Social Development, supports about 9.2 million South Africans, refugees, and asylum seekers since its inception during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.
- Eligibility criteria include South African citizenship or residency status, age between 18 and 60, and monthly income below R624, with biometric verification now required for new applicants to reduce fraud.
- Recipients can receive their payments via bank deposit, Cash Send for those without bank accounts, or at various retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.
