Dangote Refinery Turns to US Crude Imports Amid Domestic Shortages, Says Aliko Dangote
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, revealed that the Dangote Refinery is increasingly relying on crude oil imports from the United States due to a shortage of domestic crude supply.
The statement was made during a visit by the coordinator of the One-Stop-Shop for Naira-for-Crude, who praised the refinery’s role in Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic emancipation.
Dangote lauded the Naira-for-Crude initiative for stabilizing petroleum prices and easing pressure on the local currency, despite ongoing challenges with domestic crude availability.
Data indicates that crude oil imports are a significant part of Nigeria’s trade, with the refinery expected to receive 17.65 million barrels of crude oil from April to July 2025, highlighting reliance on foreign crude, particularly US sources.
