CBN Operating Income Soars to N15.23tn in 2024, Recovers from N1.15tn Loss

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reported a substantial increase in operating income to N15.23 trillion in 2024, up from N5.89 trillion in 2023, along with a profit after tax of N38.8 billion, recovering from a N1.15 trillion loss the previous year.
The CBN Group’s total liabilities and equity rose to N117.60 trillion, with notable increases in net unrealised foreign exchange gains and loans receivables variations.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court dismissed a petition to stop the CBN from using the e-naira trademark, affirming it as a national asset owned by the federal government.
The legal ruling emphasized that restricting the CBN could harm Nigeria’s economy and reputation, with the case’s substantive hearing scheduled for June 26, 2024.
