Atiku Warns Nigeria Faces Creeping Dictatorship, Urges Democratic Renewal on June 12 Anniversary
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar marked the June 12 anniversary warning that Nigeria is on the brink of a “creeping one-party dictatorship” replacing democracy.
He criticized the ruling party for silencing opposition, directing multi-billion naira contracts to cronies, and renaming national institutions after the sitting president.
Atiku described the government as having weaponized institutions to enforce fear and control, abandoning ordinary Nigerians in favor of elite comfort.
He emphasized the need for a broad opposition front to defend Nigeria’s democratic legacy and prevent the privatization of the state.
