Air India Chairman Details Engine Condition of Flight AI171 Before Deadly Crash
The chairman of Air India, N Chandrasekaran, addressed questions about the engines of flight AI171, which crashed near Ahmedabad, killing over 240, explaining the right engine was replaced in March 2025 and the left last serviced in 2023.
He emphasized the aircraft had a “clean history” and cautioned against speculation, awaiting black box data to determine the crash cause.
Investigators noted engine age does not necessarily indicate its condition, and Air India has resumed most Boeing 787 operations after safety inspections ordered by India’s aviation regulator.
The investigation is ongoing, and recovered victims’ belongings are secured and documented by authorities.
