9mobile Gets NCC Approval To Launch National Roaming On MTN Infrastructure – Phones – Nigeria
9mobile has finally secured approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to launch national roaming services on MTN Nigeria’s infrastructure by June 2025, after nearly five years of delays.
This arrangement allows 9mobile users to access MTN’s expansive network where 9mobile’s coverage is weak, aiming to improve service reliability and help 9mobile regain market share, which fell to 1.72% in April 2025.
In exchange, MTN will gain access to 9mobile’s underutilized spectrum in key frequency bands to enhance its own network capacity and coverage.
The deal underscores NCC’s intention to promote infrastructure sharing and spectrum efficiency, potentially benefiting millions of Nigerian mobile users, especially in underserved areas.
