15 Foreign Nationals Sentenced To One Year For Cybercrime In Lagos
Fifteen foreign nationals, including 11 Filipinos, 2 Chinese, 1 Malaysian, and 1 Indonesian, were convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment each by two Federal High Court judges in Lagos for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged them with multiple offences related to cybercrime and fraudulent document possession, including recruiting Nigerian youths for identity theft and impersonation to secure financial gain.
All accused pleaded guilty and were given the option to pay a ₦1 million fine instead of serving prison time and will be deported after sentence completion.
The EFCC emphasized that these convictions serve as a warning that Nigeria will not tolerate cybercrime, protecting the country’s economic integrity.
