Abia State Launches $1.3 Billion Medical City to End Nigeria’s Offshore Health Tourism – Arise News
Abia State has partnered with MKP International Holdings to develop Nigeria’s first quaternary healthcare complex, the Abia State Medical City, with a $1.3 billion investment.
Located on 200 hectares near Owerrinta, the facility will provide advanced medical services including oncology, organ transplantation, and robotic surgeries, aiming to curb Nigeria’s $1.6 billion annual capital loss from medical tourism.
The medical city will also feature a 1,000-bed ultra-modern hospital, luxury medical and tourist hotels, research institutes, and centers for fertility, ophthalmology, and digital health technologies.
This project, a flagship of Governor Alex Otti, is expected to position Abia as a leading medical destination and create a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem supported by global expertise and partnerships.
