  • The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into allegations of abuse of office and misappropriation of funds against former top officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), including former Group Chief Executive Officers Mele Kyari and Abubakar Yar’Adua.
  • The probe focuses on approximately $2.896 billion spent on refinery rehabilitation projects, distributed among the Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Warri refineries.
  • The EFCC has requested certified payroll and allowance records for 14 current and former NNPC staff as part of this inquiry.
  • The investigation coincides with recent organizational changes at NNPC, including the sacking of multiple managing directors and a forensic audit announced by Nigeria’s Minister of Finance.
