Tesla launches cheaper Model Y
- Tesla introduced a new Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant in the U.S., priced at $44,990 before incentives, which is $4,000 cheaper than the All-Wheel Drive version.
- This new model features a single motor driving the rear axle, slower acceleration (0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds vs. 4.6 seconds), but offers a longer range of 357 miles compared to 327 miles.
- With the $7,500 federal tax credit, the effective price drops to $37,490, and deliveries are expected within three to five weeks.
- The cheaper Model Y aims to boost Tesla sales following a difficult quarter and declining sales in Europe, despite its availability there for several weeks.
