NSCDC Accuses Police of Backing Illegal Miners, Calls for Senate Investigation
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has accused Nigeria Police Force operatives, especially from the Force Intelligence Department, of obstructing efforts to combat illegal mining in Nasarawa State.
NSCDC’s Mining Marshals arrested illegal miners, but the Police allegedly shielded suspects, harassed and arrested NSCDC personnel, and obstructed prosecutions.
The NSCDC alleges that Police officers fired on their team and secured a restraining order against NSCDC through false accusations without supporting evidence.
The NSCDC has petitioned the Senate Committee to investigate the Police’s actions, recommend disciplinary measures, and protect Mining Marshals’ operations nationwide.
