MLS: I don’t care who you are – Lalas knocks Messi
Former USA international Alexi Lalas criticized Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi for his aggressive confrontation with referee Tim Ford following their recent 3-3 draw against San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS.
Messi demanded a free kick after an apparent foul in the 93rd minute, which was denied by the referee, leading to a post-match dispute that required intervention from San Jose’s manager Bruce Arena.
Lalas praised the referee’s firm handling of the game and disapproved of Messi’s behavior, emphasizing that no player, regardless of stature, should receive special treatment on the field.
Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and former Barcelona and PSG star, joined Inter Miami after leaving PSG as a free agent.
