Mariam Abacha Denies Late Husband Annulled June 12 Election or Stole Nigeria’s Funds
Mariam Abacha, wife of Nigeria’s late General Sani Abacha, denied allegations that her husband annulled the 1993 June 12 presidential election or embezzled national funds during a TVC Politics interview. She challenged accusations of financial misconduct, asking for proof of stolen monies and stated that the annulment was not her husband’s action. Mrs. Abacha urged Nigerians to move beyond ethnic and religious divisions and called for stronger cooperation between the military and civilian government to address ongoing insecurity issues. She also lamented the lack of continuity in government programs and urged more patriotism and truthful media reporting.
