Course Overview

Employability is one of the key objectives of this course and the modules prepares you (as well as gives you an edge) to be able to get employed with the necessary skills needed in the industry you plan to practice in.  It also prepares you if you intend on continuing this subject as a professional course.
We combine the practical aspects of finance with the business environment – as a student here, you will have the added advantage of being able to engage with and use case studies from real firms to aid you in understanding and appreciating finance first hand.
The accounting and finance undergraduate programme is a 3 year programme.  However based on your academic standing you have the option of spending your second year at our main Lancaster campus in the UK.  This is great for those of you who would like to take a year to experience the British culture without putting your studies on hold.  Other benefits of a year abroad is the opportunity to develop your cultural competence and to widen your global network.  It broadens your education in a new teaching and learning context and provides you with different perspectives on your discipline.
Your skills acquired during this course will allow you to gain strong skills in time management, resource management, qualitative decision making and analytical thinking. These are the essential skills necessary for managers in any industry and/or company to make impactful and informative decisions which ultimately contribute to the success of the company.
Exemptions have also been awarded by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to our BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance programme (2015-2018) which is identical to that being studied at Lancaster University UK!
Many of the modules studied for an Accounting and Finance degree at LUG will help our students gain exemptions from their professional accounting exams. Exemptions will be granted to our graduates at the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting level, CIMA Operational level and CIMA Management level.
For those who aim to become Chartered Accountants, this means that there will be far fewer exams to take when graduates are working. It will therefore give them more time to focus on developing their expertise at work. Our degrees give our students far more than just exemptions from professional exams. Our students develop a broader understanding of business and are able to choose options which help increase their knowledge and achieve their long-term career goals.
All Accounting and Finance students are members of the Business Society, a student initiative led club.  This club aims to drive engagement between students, staff, faculty and industry.  As a member of this club, you would work in teams to organise workshops as well as have the opportunity to develop business skills and engage with companies in various industries.
“Life at Lancaster is informative and progressive. The university has made me who I am today.  Before I came here, I knew very little about critical thinking. Lancaster University Ghana is a fun place to be because you meet people from different cultures, tribes, and countries.”- Daniel Kojo Boateng

This programme offers a curriculum that combines theory and practice. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical involvement strikes a healthy balance between traditional academic learning and more hands-on experiences.

Entry Requirements

WASSCE: A one year Foundation Programme is required
‘A’ levels: CCC or above (Direct entry into undergraduate level)
IB students: 27 points (Direct entry into undergraduate level)

Course Overview

The overall aim of this programme is to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to be a computing professional.  Our approach is very hands-on when it comes to computing and our projects allow each student to see and understand first-hand how technology works in various companies.  A student project usually consists of building a software application from scratch – this involves the conception, design, delivery and branding of the app.
One of the advantages of our Computer Science Course is that it is in the same faculty as Psychology – what this means is that our students understand the end user more and what affects certain decisions they make.  They also have the added advantage of having access to various facilities during school trips.  Some of which include: Attending the two day conference – Agile in Africa, where students had the opportunity to participate in the conference; Visiting the Kofi Annan Centre, where students had the opportunity to learn about new networking technology and taking part in the MEST Hackathon, where students were put into teams to solve various problems by building a prototype.
It’s not all work and no play – we have a serious side and a playful side when it comes to our clubs and societies.  There is the Electronics Gaming Society as well as a Computer Science Club which consists of students coming together to play video games and learning how computers can solve social issues
“We’ve taken particular care to attract women into our programme, believing that the inclusion of talented women in science and technology has huge potential for development in West Africa. We’re pleased to say that we now have a much higher ratio of female students studying Computer Science at Lancaster University Ghana than is the case even at the Lancaster UK campus.”  Yaw Busia, Computer Science Lecturer
